Welcome to the information portal for the Duke University Program in Materials Science and Engineering.

Please browse our pages to learn more about the innovative research, exceptional faculty, and exciting educational programs that exist here at Duke.

Our graduate curriculum is designed to accommodate students with a variety of disciplinary backgrounds and to create a thriving materials community through shared experiences.

A graduate seminar course that emphasizes student participation and an experiential fabrication and characterization course in the Shared Materials Instrumentation Facility are just two examples of the engaging educational approach of our program.

By harnessing strengths across Duke, we prepare diverse cohorts of MS and PhD students to tackle multidisciplinary materials challenges

By harnessing strengths across campus, we seek to prepare diverse cohorts of MS and PhD students to tackle multidisciplinary materials challenges in a wide range of professional settings, from academia to industry to national labs. In addition, the potential for unique exposure and access to the Duke School of MedicineNicholas School of the Environment, Sanford School of Public Policy, and Duke's Innovation & Entrepreneurship Initiative can provide the resources needed for students to chart their own paths.

We are excited for you to learn more about what we have to offer, and we look forward to welcoming you to our program.
